my understanding is that they no longer use the bcm43xx driver .In the newer kernels it is a b43 driver thus you need the b43-fwcutter instead. I tried it briefly but never got it working, had alpha 4 and it was so buggy that wifi was the least of my worries. Go here and have a read.b43 has a new codebase and cryto which probably translates into a lot of swearing for us . ;) Hope some of this helps you as this site helped me switch from the dreaded winwoes. http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43
As far as ALSA goes, try these for fixing sound: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Gutsy_Intel_HD_Audio_Controller http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=607378

Watch out for the new update with the new Kernel, it'll break the audio on the Dell 1501.
For now I reinstalled 7.10.
